Sebastian Coe, a two-time Olympic champion from Britain, said national track and field federations may be pressuring some athletes to take performance-enhancing drugs.
“The pressure on athletes to take drugs is quite colossal, and part of it is coming from governing bodies,” Coe said in a television interview. “We have to weed them out, along with the guilty coaches and doctors. One of the worst offenders in weeding out the offenders is the U.S.A., where a slap on the wrist is often the case instead of downright penalties.”
