****”Cinderella.”
Disney. $26.99. 1950.
“Cinderella” has been one of Disney’s most popular animated features since its first release in 1950, when it saved the studio from bankruptcy. The film’s skillful blend of comedy (the mice and Lucifer the cat), pathos (Cinderella’s mistreatment by her stepsisters) and drama (the attempt by Jaq and Gus to free Cinderella from her room) retains its appeal, nearly 40 years later. The scene of Cinderella receiving the ball gown from her Fairy Godmother--reportedly a personal favorite of Disney’s--still ranks as one of the most magical sequences in the history of animation. A fairy-tale classic.
