San Diego
A 19-year-old Paradise Hills man was fatally shot at the edge of the Morse High School grounds Monday afternoon after he was chased by two men in a late-model foreign pickup, San Diego police said. School had ended for the day when the incident took place.
The San Diego County coroner’s office identified the victim as Weber Leodones Gabriel, listed as having a Gilmartin Drive address. He was taken by a passer-by to Paradise Valley Hospital, where he died, a police spokesman said.
According to witnesses, two men in a black pickup truck, either a Toyota or a Mazda, accosted the victim in the 300 block of Brandywood Street, bordering the high school, police said. Gabriel attempted to flee toward the athletic fields but was caught by the truck’s driver at the fence, police said, where he was shot once in the chest with a handgun.
The two assailants fled but were followed several blocks by a witness who then lost the truck.
