Gunman Frees 11 Hostages
RICHMOND, Va. — An armed man of Lebanese descent held 11 hostage at a military recruiting station today to promote “peace in Lebanon” but released all hostages unharmed within hours and surrendered to police.
The 20-year-old Richmond resident, who was armed with two handguns and a Soviet-made AK-47 automatic weapon, wanted a statement read over a local radio station. No shots were fired, no injuries were reported and no statement from the unidentified gunman was broadcast. The office recruits for the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. Nine military personnel and two civilians were taken hostage.
