More than 500 marijuana plants worth at least $1.5 million were seized early Tuesday from a rural greenhouse equipped with an irrigation system and a generator for artificial light, San Diego County sheriff’s deputies said.
A Manhattan Beach couple and a 17-year-old boy were being held in County Jail on Tuesday night on suspicion of cultivating marijuana, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, and transportation of marijuana, Deputy George Gardner said. Bail was set at $250,000 each.
Agents seized 511 mature marijuana plants 14 to 16 feet tall after sheriff’s deputies, acting on tips from neighbors, stopped a pickup truck at Gomez Creek and Rainbow Heights roads about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday. The deputies found marijuana plants loaded in the back of the truck, Gardner said.
Arrested were Michael Kiss, 41, and Manuela Cerruti, 37, as well as the 17-year-old boy.
