Nat Stuckey; Songwriter and Performer
Nat Stuckey, 54, who wrote and recorded the country hits “Sweet Thang,” “Waitin’ in Your Welfare Line,” recorded by Buck Owens, and “Pop A Top,” recorded by Jim Ed Brown. “Sweet Thang,” recorded by Stuckey 20 years ago, also was a hit as a duet by Ernest Tubb and Loretta Lynn. Stuckey most recently had recorded commercial jingles. He was a radio announcer for KWKH in Shreveport, La., when he wrote his first No. 1 hit, “Waitin’ in Your Welfare Line.” He then began appearing on the “Louisiana Hayride” country music show in Shreveport before moving to Nashville in 1968.
