Beverly Hills : $155,500 in Grants Awarded
The Beverly Hills City Council has voted to give $155,500 to five community groups that provide services to city residents.
The council made the following grants:
$3,000 to the Beverly Hills Ministerial Assn., which works with religious and human-service organizations to assist indigents.
$40,000 to the Beverly Hills Symphony for concerts and music education.
$25,000 to the Westside Food Bank, which gives food to poor people on the Westside.
$17,500 to the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild for theatrical productions.
$70,000 to the Maple Center for individual and group counseling for drug addiction, crisis intervention and training of service volunteers.
The council postponed until Sept. 6 a vote on a $37,605 grant to the Beverly Hills Family YMCA. Mayor Robert Tanenbaum, who is the president of the city’s YMCA, disqualified himself from the vote to avoid a potential conflict of interest.
