Kain Captures Ventura Triathlon
Pete Kain won the fifth Ventura Triathlon last Sunday to capture the Gold Coast Triathlon Series title and earn an expenses-paid trip to the national championships in Hilton Head, S. C., in September.
The Los Gatos resident completed the nearly 31-mile course in 1 hour, 53 minutes, 25 seconds. The course included a 1-mile swim, a 23.5-mile bicycle ride and a 6-mile run. Kain, who also won the Ventura Sprint Triathlon in June and was fifth in the Oxnard Triathlon in July, finished with 236 points.
Janet Mamon of Pacific Palisades easily defended her Gold Coast title, winning the women’s race in 2:12.15. She had 262 points, 177 more than the runner-up.
