Councils, School Board : Filing Ends for Moorpark, Camarillo, Simi Elections

The filing deadline ended Wednesday for candidates seeking election Nov. 8 to the Moorpark and Camarillo city councils and the Simi Valley school board.

In Camarillo, voters will select two members to the City Council among 10 candidates. The deadline was extended from last Friday because incumbent F. Burrows (Bill) Esty is not seeking reelection.

Candidates who have filed since Friday are George Imrie, a financial manager; E. Larry Desha, an attorney, and George Wachold, a retired aerospace engineer.

The candidates who filed last week are incumbent Michael D. Morgan, a federal probation officer; Stanley Scesey, an electrical engineer, and Clinton McCaslin, a retired grading contractor. Also running are David Smith, a financial planner; Harvey Esenberg, an operations administrator; Lowell Zelinski, a retired teacher, and Donald DeBring, an aircraft support administrator.

Simi Valley

In the Simi Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees race, voters will pick four members of the five-member board. Three of the four seats will be for four-year terms, and the fourth is to fill the two years remaining in the term of Tom Harmon, who died last month.

Incumbent board member Helen Beebe is seeking to fill the two-year term and will be challenged by Francine Shannon, a dental hygienist.

The deadline for candidates in the race for the four-year term was extended from last Friday because incumbent Mimi Shapiro is not seeking reelection.

Candidates who have filed since Friday are Diane Collins, an administrative officer; Charlotte Wilson, a facilitating trainer, and Jary Danible, a local businessman.

The candidates who filed last week in race for the four-year term are incumbent Kenneth L. Ashton; Judy Barry, a PTA volunteer, and Hal Lipman, a college teacher. Also running are Robert Pegg, who is retired, and Gregg Olson, a firefighter.

No new candidates filed this week in the Moorpark City Council race. The filing deadline was extended from last Friday because Mayor John Lane has decided not to seek reelection. The terms of council members John Galloway and Bernardo Perez also end in November. Both men are seeking reelection.

Challengers in the Moorpark race are Thomas C. (Bud) Ferguson, a retired businessman and former councilman; Paul Lawrason, a business manager, and Scott Montgomery, a financial planner. Also running are Bill LaPerch, a former Planning Commissioner; Leta Yancy-Sutton, a real estate broker and former councilwoman; John Roberts, a city parks and recreation commissioner, and Lynn Tingirides, a law-enforcement officer.
