Cerritos resident John H. Moore has been appointed to the Cerritos Community College District Board of Trustees to fill a portion of the term left vacant by board President Barbara J. Hayden, who was elected to the Downey City Council in June.

Moore, 40, who is active in community and civic affairs in Cerritos, will serve 15 months of Hayden’s remaining 3 1/2-year term at the college in Norwalk. The balance of the term will be filled by election in November, 1989.

Hayden was elected in 1985 to fill an unexpired term, then was reelected last November to a full 4-year term.

During its regular meeting on Tuesday, the trustees unanimously selected Moore from seven finalists who had applied for the seven-member board, said Mark Wallace, director of public information.

Moore is the first black to serve on the college board in the school’s 33 years.

Moore was an unsuccessful candidate for the ABC Unified School District board in 1987. He is an account manager for Oscar Mayer Food Corp. in Los Angeles. He lives in Cerritos with his wife, Teresa, a service manager for Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Cudahy, and two children, Monet, 10, and Sumari, 19.

Moore has an associate of arts degree in data processing from Compton College and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cal State Fullerton.
