Local News in Brief : Bill to Honor Hahn OKd
The state Assembly, by a 45-20 vote, on Monday approved a bill to rename the Baldwin Hills State Recreation Area the Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area in honor of the longtime Los Angeles county supervisor who suffered a stroke in January.
Sponsored by Sen. Diane Watson (D-Los Angeles), the measure now goes back to the Senate for concurrence in lower house amendments. Assemblywoman Gwen Moore (D-Los Angeles) said Hahn is a man who had a “vision” and spearheaded early efforts to obtain the park.
An opponent, Assemblyman Ross Johnson (R-La Habra), called it “inappropriate” to name a state facility for a living individual. But Assemblyman Tom Bane (D-Tarzana) said Hahn is an “extraordinary individual who should be given some sort of tribute during his lifetime.”
