Marlon Starling said he will ask the World Boxing Assn. for an immediate welterweight title rematch against Tomas Molinares, and may go to court to overturn his late-punch loss.
Starling lost his title Friday night at Atlantic City, N.J., when he was knocked out in the sixth round after the bell rang. Referee Joe Cortez said Molinares was in the process of throwing the punch at about the time the bell rang. Larry Hazzard, the state athletic commissioner, reviewed videotapes at ringside and was satisfied with his referee’s explanation.
The bell cannot “save” a fighter in a WBA championship fight.
