DEER HUNTING IN ORANGE COUNTY

Orange County is part of deer hunting zone D-15, which also includes portions of Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties. Most deer hunting in Orange County takes place in the Santa Ana Mountains included within the Cleveland National Forest.

ARCHERY SEASON: Aug. 6-26.

GENERAL SEASON: Sept. 3-Oct. 2.

BAG LIMIT: One buck, forked horn or better.

GETTING A DEER TAG FOR ZONE D-15

All applicants for deer tags must first purchase a non-refundable 1988-89 California hunting license ($19.25 for residents; $5 for residents under 16; $66 for non-residents). Each person may submit only one deer tag application each year. Other zones in the state may have different bag limits and different season dates. Applications for hunting licenses and deer tags are available at most sporting goods stores, or through the California Department of Fish and Game (address below).

TAG QUOTA: 3,000.

AVAILABILITY: First-come, first-served.

TAG FEE: $11.50 for resident; $111.25 for non-resident.

ADDRESS: Completed application forms can be mailed to the Department of Fish and Game License and Revenue Branch, 3211 S St., Sacramento 95816, or taken in person to the Department of Fish and Game office in Long Beach at 330 Golden Shore, Suite 50.
