Boys’ Athletes of the Week : TRACK AND FIELD

Mark Senior, who was boxed in for much of the second lap, broke through with about 100 meters left to win the 800-meter run at the state championships at Cerritos College Saturday. The Mt. Miguel senior was timed in 1 minute 51.37 seconds, fourth-best ever in San Diego County. Senior won the section title May 28 in 1:51.77.

TENNIS

San Pasqual’s Andy Potter won the section singles title Friday at the Bishop’s School, beating Tommy Phanco of Bishop’s, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5. Potter, who spent his first two years of high school in Colorado, went to Vista last year but transferred to San Pasqual in order to practice at Tennis Escondido. It was his third victory over Phanco in three tries this spring.

BASEBALL

Helix’s Rick Navarro pitched a three-hitter as the Highlanders beat Santana, 1-0, to win the section 3-A title Thursday at the University of San Diego.
