Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Chamber Board Votes to Support Recall Bid
The Chamber of Commerce board of directors unanimously voted to support a recall effort against three City Council members, the chamber’s general manager said Wednesday.
A group of residents are currently collecting signatures on a petition to force a recall election against Mayor Dan Kenney and council members Robert F. Gentry and Lida Lenney. The group has until Tuesday to collect 3,000 signatures on each recall petition in order to get it on the November ballot.
Chamber general manager Gary Bosley said the board of directors voted 13 to 0 to support the recall, although it did not decide to oppose individual members of the council.
Bosley deferred comment on the vote to Chamber President Don Black, who was unavailable for comment.
Recall supporters believe the council members are anti-business because of stringent sign regulations and laws prohibiting outdoor displays.
