The Nation : Six Women, Would-Be Rescuer Drown
Six women drowned when a crowded fishing boat capsized in Lake Tillatobia near Coffeeville, Miss. A would-be rescuer also drowned when he tried to go to their aid. The Yalobusha County coroner said eight people were in a 16-foot fishing boat on a Memorial Day outing on the 30-acre lake in the Holly Springs National Forest when the boat capsized. The boat’s pilot was able to swim to shore and one passenger was rescued. The victims, all from Coffeeville, were recovered by divers from about 10 feet of water in the lake. The would-be rescuer was identified as Eddie Rounds, 41.
