Local News in Brief : Orange : Nine People, 56 Birds Nabbed at Cockfight
Orange County sheriff’s deputies broke up a cockfight Sunday that had attracted 60 people to the rear of a home in El Modena, an unincorporated area surrounded by the city of Orange. Nine people were arrested and 56 birds were seized, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
The arrests were made after a tipster telephoned the sheriff’s office, said Lt. Thomas Conner.
When deputies arrived about 1:15 p.m. at a home at 11861 Pearl St. in El Modena, they found about 60 people watching two birds fighting in a back yard, Conner said.
Conner said 56 birds were seized, including three which were dead.
Nine people were arrested but Conner did not know the exact charges.
