When the National Hockey League’s regular season ended a few weeks ago, General Manager Bob Clarke of the Philadelphia Flyers suggested Mike Keenan as a candidate for coach of the year.
Wednesday, Clarke fired him.
Clarke said that, under Keenan, the Flyers had played without emotion or enthusiasm.
Keenan was the league’s coach of the year in his rookie season, 1984-85, when the Flyers carried Edmonton to seven games in the Stanley Cup finals. He had a record of 190-102-28, with a 59% winning percentage.
