Winner Bayakoa Taken From Track at Hollywood Park
Bayakoa was in front from the start and held on to win the $46,000 feature race on the turf at Hollywood Park Wednesday but apparently suffered heat prostration.
Bayakoa, who was taken off the track after being unsaddled and kept out of the winner’s circle, ran the mile in 1:34 1/5, under Laffit Pincay, and finished 2 lengths ahead of Quadrada. Her condition was not immediately known.
It was the first U.S. start for the 4-year-old, Argentine-bred filly, who paid $8.40, $4.80 and $4.20. while earning $25,300.
Quadrada, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, returned $7.40 and $4.60, while New Bride, with Bill Shoemaker up, paid $4.20 to show.
Gary Stevens, who rode Winning Colors to a Kentucky Derby victory Saturday, had a triple Wednesday with winners in the third, fourth and seventh races. He has had 5 victories in 15 mounts since the Derby.
