Changes in test scores are affected by the following: overall changes in demographics, e.g. the growing number of non-English speaking students; test-wiseness (student’s test taking skills and understanding of test format); the degree of overlap (information tested versus information taught in classrooms); documented research that scores are lower when more students are tested due to a greater achievement variability among students, and possible changes in the overall quality of the education program.
