Taiwan’s Tu Takes Women’s Golf Event
KYOKUSHIMURA, Japan — Taiwan’s Tu Ai-yu shot a 70 Sunday for a 213 to win the Maruko Chuo women’s golf tourney.
Tu’s triumph followed a victory by compatriot Huang Bie-shyun, who won the JLPGA opening tournament, the Daikin Orchid championship, earlier this month.
Tu, who led the JLPGA’s money list for five consecutive years through 1986 but won only one tournament in 1987, earned $38,500.
She started the final round one shot behind Japan’s Ritsu Imabori and Hiromi Takamura on the 6,224-yard, par-72 Kumamoto Chuo Country Club.
Takamura shot a 72 for 214 to finish in second place, followed by Imabori, who had a 215 after firing a 73.
Holly Hartley of the United States shot a 72 for 218 and finished sixth.
