Meeting of Islamic Nations Opens Today
AMMAN, Jordan — Conflicts shaking the Muslim world from its Middle Eastern core to the distant Philippines are expected to dominate an Islamic conference that opens here today.
The Palestinian uprising in Israeli-occupied lands, the Persian Gulf War, Afghanistan and the grievances of Muslims in Bulgaria and the Philippines hang over the 5-day meeting of the 46-member Organization of the Islamic Conference.
Muslim foreign ministers will unite in condemning Israel for its handling of three months of protests in which at least 98 Palestinians have died and will pledge money for the uprising, Arab diplomats said.
