SAN DIEGO — - Jack Mack and the Heart Attack, another California bar band and in town for a recording session, will follow Greg Kihn at the Belly Up Thursday.
Formed in Los Angeles more than eight years ago by guitarist Andrew Kastner, then a staff songwriter for Warner Brothers Music, the 10-member soul revue boasts a five-piece horn section and raucous songs that recall the heyday of the Memphis rhythm-and-blues scene of the early 1960s.
Jack Mack and the Heart Attack have contributed songs to seven sound tracks from major movies like “Police Academy,” “Spring Break” and “Class Reunion.” They have also appeared on MTV’s 1982 New Year’s Eve special and on such nationally syndicated television shows as “Fame,” “Laverne and Shirley” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Tonite.”
