The NFL also announced that the Super Bowl Jan. 31 in San Diego was worth $161 million to the city and surrounding area.

That figure was based on money spent for meals, lodging and tourism by visitors, businesses, the competing teams and the league, as well as money earned in income paid to residents of San Diego who worked for local businesses. It is estimated that visitors spent an average of $141 a day.
