An undercover San Diego police officer shot and killed a man Saturday night while a search warrant was being served at a house in Southeast San Diego.

Narcotics officers were serving arrest and search warrants at 1550 50th St. when a scuffle broke out around 8:30 p.m., according to Officer Pete Westrick. The unidentified man reportedly took one officer’s gun away, prompting another officer to shoot him, Westrick said.

The wounded man was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead within minutes of arrival, hospital spokeswoman Laura Avallone said. The 50-year-old victim was shot three times in the heart, Avallone said.
