Scout Howie Haak was relieved of his duties by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Haak, 76, a scout for the Pirates since 1950, signed more than 100 major league players, including Manny Sanguillen, Tony Pena, Tony Armas, Rennie Stennett, Omar Moreno and Miguel Dilone.
Haak started his scouting career under Branch Rickey for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946 and moved to the Pirates when Rickey became the club’s general manager.
