An East Los Angeles couple were injured when their car crashed as the man tried to help the woman who was giving birth to a baby with the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Conley said Enrique Echabarria was driving Margarita Diaz to a hospital when she went into labor. Echabarria reportedly took one hand off the steering wheel and his eyes off the road to help save the choking baby girl. The car went over a curb and into a telephone pole at Eastern Avenue and 1st Street. Paramedics took the parents and the child to County-USC Medical Center, where the infant was reported in guarded condition. The parents suffered minor injuries, deputies said.
