Santa Monica : Girls Club Burns Mortgage
The Girls Club and Boys Club of Santa Monica held a mortgage-burning party Wednesday to celebrate repayment of a $50,000 loan on the Girls Club headquarters in Los Amigos Park, 2424 6th St.
The nine-year mortgage is not due until 1989 but the club was able to pay off the loan early, thanks to a fund-raising effort.
The Girls Club, which has grown from a membership of 35 in 1982 to about 300, provides activities for children ages 7 to 17, including arts and crafts, video programs, cooking classes, tutoring and outdoor classes.
