When Coach Ron Beick took over the Thousand Oaks girls volleyball team this season, he was surprisingly optimistic. The Lancers had finished 1-11 last season.

Beick’s goal was for this season’s team to qualify for the playoffs.

With the 15-6, 15-10, 15-0 victory Thursday night over host Channel Islands, the Lancers went beyond even Beick’s expectations. It gave Thousands Oaks a 9-3 record and a share of the Marmonte League title with Simi Valley.
