PREP FOOTBALL : Century League : Santa Ana Valley Wins Its First Game in League
Santa Ana Valley got its first Century League victory, rallying to beat Villa Park, 18-10, Thursday night in Santa Ana Stadium.
The Falcons (1-2, 2-6), moved out of last place with the victory over the Spartans (0-3, 2-6).
“We developed as a program tonight,” said Dan Castanon, Santa Ana Valley coach. “We still have a long way to go, but we solidified our effort tonight with hard work.”
Villa Park had a 3-0 lead at the half on Ryan Hayes’ 38-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Santa Ana Valley went ahead in the third quarter on a two-yard run by running back Roshawn Lacy. But Villa Park came back as junior quarterback Rob Davey completed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Scott Creagan for a 10-6 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Santa Ana Valley scored on a one-yard run by quarterback Steve Calhoun to take a 12-10 lead with 1:40 left.
Villa Park fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Santa Ana Valley recovered on the Villa Park 30-yard line. Two plays later, Santa Ana Valley running back Paul Peters ran 19 yards for a touchdown and an 18-10 lead.
Calhoun completed 11 of 21 passes for 184 yards. The Falcons outgained the Spartans offensively, 296-206.
Davey completed 6 of 9 passes for 111 yards and 1 interception.
