San Diego
Three separate shootings Wednesday night in Southeast San Diego wounded two men while a third person apparently escaped unharmed, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
In the first incident, David Lopez, 27, was shot in the stomach at 25th Street and Imperial Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Lopez, who was taken to San Diego Physicians & Surgeons Hospital for surgery, reportedly was shot by occupants of a passing car.
A second shooting occurred at 11:04 p.m. near 38th Street and National Avenue. According to witnesses, a man about 25 years old fired a shot into a crowd. He then got into a large, silver late-model car and chased one of the witnesses, firing two shots at him but apparently missing. The assailant and intended victim both fled before police arrived.
About 40 minutes later, a man was shot through the leg in the 4500 block of Market Street. Robinson said that Charles Williams, also known as Charles Johnson, was walking when he heard a noise and suddenly felt pain in his right leg. He was taken to Mercy Hospital. Witnesses said they saw two people running from the scene.
Robinson said there is no reason to believe that any of the shootings are related.
