Roger Johnson, chairman and chief executive of Western Digital Corp. in Irvine, has been named to the board of directors of the American Business Conference, a Washington D.C. association of fast-growing American companies. His two-year term on the group’s board began Oct. 1.

Johnson has been a member of the conference since 1984.

Founded in 1981, the American Business Conference works primarily to promote national policies that promote economic growth and new business opportunities. The group is limited to 100 chief executives of high-growth companies with revenues between $25 million and $2 billion.

Johnson, 52, joined Western Digital in July, 1982 as president and chief operating officer. He was named chief executive officer in October, 1983 and was elected board chairman in November, 1984.
