Kiraly’s Team Gains Volleyball Semifinal

Karch Kiraly, a member of the gold medal-winning 1984 U.S. Olympic volleyball team, and partner John Hanley will meet Singin Smith and Randy Stoklos today in the winners’ bracket semifinals of the $20,000 Miller Lite Orange County Open at Seal Beach Pier.

In the other semifinal, John Stevenson and Andrew Smith will play Tim Hovland and Mike Dodd. Both matches start at 9 a.m.

In today’s losers’ bracket pairings, Lewis Hanson and Ricci Luyties will play Brent Frohoff and Scott Ayakatubby; Dan Brevrebalovich and Billy Berger will play Robert Chavez and Jay Hansch; Wally Goodrick and Scott Friederichsen will play Larry Near and Roger Clark and Dana McFarland and Eric Wurst will play Dane Selznick and Todd Schaefer. The matches begin at 8 a.m.
