Marcos Has Successful Cataract Operation
HONOLULU — Deposed Philippine leader Ferdinand E. Marcos has undergone a successful cataract operation, his chief aide, Arturo Aruiza, said Thursday.
Marcos had the surgery performed Wednesday on his right eye at the Surgicare Clinic of the Rehabilitation Center of the Pacific, Aruiza said.
The operation took about 40 minutes, Aruiza said. Marcos was allowed to walk to his car after a short rest, he said. Physicians in the Philippines had told Marcos long ago to have the cataract removed, but because of his busy schedule the operation was postponed, Aruiza said.
