The scheduled December trial of Death Row convict David Carpenter in the murders of five mountain hikers was ordered moved out of Marin County by Superior Court Judge Richard Breiner, who said it was the only way to ensure a fair trial. Carpenter, 56, already under a death sentence in San Quentin for the 1981 killings of two women in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is charged with slaying four women and a man hiking on Mt. Tamalpais and along the Point Reyes National Seashore. He is also accused of raping two women.
