Loews President Preston Tisch to Head Postal Service
WASHINGTON — Preston Robert Tisch, president of Loews Corp. of New York, has been selected by unanimous vote to be the new postmaster general, the Postal Service Board of Governors announced today.
Tisch will replace Albert V. Casey, interim postmaster general since January, whose resignation is effective Aug. 15.
John McKean, the postal board chairman, told a news conference of the unanimous selection and said, “Bob Tisch is a careful, highly skilled manager and corporate leader who can strengthen the postal service.”
Tisch, 60, is president and chief operating officer of Loews Corp., a family business with interests in theaters, hotels, tobacco, insurance and timing devices. Companies in the Loews empire include Loews Theaters; Lorillard Corp., a major tobacco manufacturer; CNA Financial Corp., a property, casualty and life insurance business, and Bulova Watches.
