School Board, Union Approve 2-Year Pact for 960 Workers
After lengthy talks that went to mediation three times, a contract between the Glendale Unified School District and custodial, cafeteria, clerical and other classified employees has been approved.
The agreement, ratified by the union last Thursday and approved by the school board Tuesday, gives workers a 6.7% pay raise and other benefits. The two sides had been negotiating since September and reached a tentative accord last month, but that contract was rejected by employees.
The California School Employees Assn. Local 3 approved the latest contract 118 to 2. The union represents about 960 employees, many of whom were away on vacation, said Mary Meehan, spokeswoman and chief negotiator for the classified employees.
Under terms of the two-year contract, the classified employees will receive a 3.5% raise for the 1985-86 school year and a 3.2% salary increase for the 1986-87 school year. The group also will get a one-time retroactive payment of 3.5% of their base salary for the last year.
In addition, 2.5% to 17% salary raises will go to about 600 classified employees.
