ORANGE COUNTY BASEBALL ROUNDUP : El Dorado Makes It 3 for 3 Against Loara
No matter what league you play in, it’s tough to beat the same team three times in one season. Said Steve Gullotti, El Dorado High School coach: “Heck, it’s tough to beat any team twice.”
The Golden Hawks beat the odds Tuesday afternoon, using 10 hits to defeat Loara for the third time this season, 10-4, in an Empire League game at Placentia.
The Golden Hawks (8-3, 16-6) came out swinging in the first inning. Two walks and two Saxon errors let in the first El Dorado run. With the bases loaded, senior right fielder Scott Holcomb hit a 1-0 fastball over the right-center field fence, giving the Golden Hawks a 5-2 lead.
The next time the bases were full for El Dorado left fielder Jim Buck to hit a one-hop triple off the center-field fence, driving in three runs for a 9-3 lead.
“We came ready to play today and we were swinging the bats with confidence. Also, our defense made all the right plays,” Gullotti said.
El Dorado’s Jeff Petredes (4-1) scattered 10 hits.
