Ewing Has Surgery Today, Out for Season
NEW YORK — Rookie center Patrick Ewing will undergo minor knee surgery today and be lost for the final month of the NBA season, the New York Knicks announced today.
Ewing will have a 30-minute arthroscopic procedure to remove a piece of floating soft tissue in his right knee, General Manager Scotty Stirling said..
Ewing is expected to be out of the hospital the same day and begin rehabilitation almost immediately. Generally, the recovery period for such surgery is two to four weeks, the Knicks said.
Ewing averaged 20 points and 9 rebounds a game in the 50 games he played after coming to the Knicks as the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft.
