Reiner Decisions
Conrad’s Manson cartoon (Feb. 24) apparently expresses his opinion of Los Angeles Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner’s decision not to prosecute in some recently publicized instances.
I believe it is both morally correct and good management not to use the resources of his department to prosecute cases in which he and his staff are convinced they have insufficient evidence for a successful prosecution.
Reiner rightly perceives that his office is not intended for publicity or harassment. At risk of public criticism, Reiner has made correct decisions in the public interest that have required courage and integrity. For that he deserves our commendation.
