Arcadia : Tennis Club Opposed, 131-4
The Highland Oaks Homeowners Assn. has voted 131 to 4 to oppose a proposed $2-million private tennis and social club on a county site in the Santa Anita debris disposal area of northern Arcadia and Monrovia.
Developers have signed an option-to-lease agreement with the county but the project still must be approved by the cities of Arcadia and Monrovia. Residents object to the proposed club because the only entrance to the club would be at the intersection of Highland Oaks Drive and Elkins Avenue, in an exclusive residential neighborhood.
Craig Bonholtzer, who is leading the fight against the project, has also delivered a petition with 700 signatures to the office of county Supervisor Pete Schabarum protesting the option-to-lease agreement.
