Pitcher LaMarr Hoyt of the San Diego...
Pitcher LaMarr Hoyt of the San Diego Padres was arrested for drug and weapons violations Feb. 18 in a second brush with the law before entering a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center last week.
The arrest in San Diego was made eight days after Hoyt had been briefly detained by U.S. customs agents at the San Ysidro border station for failing to declare a small quantity of marijuana, Quaalude, and Valium on his return to the United States from Mexico.
In the subsequent arrest, Hoyt was initially pulled over by police for investigation of a traffic violation. Officers said they issued a misdemeanor citation to the pitcher after they found that Hoyt was carrying a switch-blade knife and less than an ounce of marijuana.
Hoyt was released by police on his promise to appear in court.
