Fleet Facility 30% Completed
Construction of the Fleet Computer Programming Facility at the Fleet Combat Training Center on Point Loma is scheduled to be completed by December.
C. E. Wylie was awarded the $9.6-million building contract by the U. S. Navy, and Alan Boyer and Chris Wszolek are project co-managers.
Designed by the Lane Architectural Group, the building is shaped in a sweeping semicircle and is located on a high bluff overlooking the ocean. The convex side of the structure faces west; the concave side will enclose a landscaped courtyard with flower beds and a moat.
The 84,000-square-foot, three-story structure is being built to Navy specifications with underground utility systems and a concrete caisson foundation, as well as structural steel framing and concrete walls. Capt. William Frazier is officer in charge of construction.
The interior will contain a 100-seat auditorium, classrooms, administrative offices and bays for 370 computer programmers. The top two levels will have 480-foot corridors, more than 1 1/2 times the length of a football field.
