Striped Bass Bite at Lake Pyramid

Good catches of striped bass were reported this week by landing operators at several Southland reservoirs. At Lake Pyramid, Rick Hansen of Castaic and Tom Oswald of Van Nuys caught 20- and 22-pounders, respectively.

There was good corvina fishing near Red Hill at the Salton Sea, where most catches were ranging from 12 to 18 pounds.

WILLOW BEACH--Good for striped bass. Kay and Bill Tennis, Hollywood, 13-pound 12-ounce and 11-12 stripers at 56-mile marker. Trout excellent south of resort near 38-mile marker.

LAKE MEAD--Striped bass good at lower end of lake from 20 to 50 feet. Overton Arm picking up with stripers and largemouth bass. Virginia Canyon excellent for largemouth bass.

BULLHEAD CITY--Trout picking up on Lake Mohave with trolling producing best results. Largemouth bass and catfish good at Topock Marsh.

SALTON SEA--Bombay Beach good for croaker. Tilapia good at North Shore. Catch of the week: Dave Harper, Los Angeles, 25-4 corvina.

LAKE CACHUMA--Bass improved in shallow water, five to eight feet. Catfish good.

LAKE CASITAS--Catfish excellent. Bass and trout good. Some bass on surface. Water level up 11 feet.

PYRAMID LAKE--Striped bass best bet. Catfish slow.

LAKE PIRU--Bass picking up in shallow water. Catfish good. Trout picking up, trolling best bet.

CASTAIC LAKE--Bass best bet, ranging from 7-8 to 13-8. Some trout limits reported.

LAKE ISABELLA--Catfish good at night. Trout fair. Bass good from boats and shore. Crappie and bluegill slow.

SAN DIEGO LAKES: Otay--Good for bass. Other species slow. San Vicente--Bass and trout fair. Top catch: 13-0 catfish. Miramar: Trout best bet. Bass slow. Lake Sutherland opens today. El Captain will open next Thursday.

IRVINE LAKE--Lake back up to level for launching private boats. Bass and crappies good. Trout good with variety of baits. Trolling yielding good results. Bass hitting near Rocky Point.

LAKE IRWINDALE--Trout best bet with many limits caught. Walt Shearer, Temple City, limit of trout weighing 20 pounds, largest 5-0. Rick Fitzgerald, South Pasadena, 4-4 trout.

VAIL LAKE--Good for bass. Catfish fair. William Randolph, Los Angeles, 16-12 catfish on mackerel in Bayou Bay. Bob Dill, Hawthorne, 11-12 bass. Crappie spotty.

LAKE SILVERWOOD--Crappie best bet near dock. Good for largemouth bass at 25 feet. Todd Sudmier, Summit Valley, 10-0 largemouth. Striped bass slow.

LAKE HENSHAW--Good for crappie. Lanzy Washington, Temecula, 15 crappie, largest 1-8; Clare Bacon, Encinitas, 25 crappie, largest 1-12. Trout and bass fair. Channel catfish picking up.

BISHOP AREA--Pleasant Valley Reservoir excellent for pan-size rainbow trout up to four pounds. Lower Owens River excellent for pan-size rainbows and brown trout.
