Durazo Extradition Ordered
Former Mexico City Police Chief Arturo Durazo, accused by Mexican authorities of illegally amassing a huge fortune while in office, should be sent back to his homeland to stand trial, a Los Angeles federal judge ruled today.
The extradition order by U.S. District Judge Matt Byrne Jr. won’t be carried out until at least March 10, when the attorneys for Durazo, 68, are scheduled to ask the judge to stay his order. If Byrne refuses, Durazo could be sent immediately to Mexico unless the federal appellate courts agree to intervene, federal prosecutor J. Stephen Czuleger said.
