Marty Ludwikowski of the New York Athletic Club and Catherine Stone of the Atlanta Track Club won the Manufacturers Hanover five-mile runs in New York’s Central Park, earning all-expense paid trips to Hiroshima, Japan, where they will compete in a 10-kilometer race on March 16.
The 28-year-old Ludwikowski, winner of the event in 1981, set a race record of 23 minutes 42 seconds in registering a 105-yard victory over Budd Coates of Emmaus,. Pa. Coates, timed in 23:59, was followed by 1985 winner Luis Ostolozaga of Westchester Puma in 24:04.
Stone, 23, clocked in 28:24, beat Marilyn Hulak by two seconds.
