Countywide : Water District Vote Stands After Recount
Former Costa Mesa Mayor Donn Hall and homeowners association activist Patricia Aynes were seven votes apart when the polls closed in the Nov. 5 election for a seat on the Orange County Water District, and they were still seven votes apart after a recount this week by county Registrar of Voters Al Olson.
Fourteen previously uncounted votes materialized in the new tally, but each candidate was awarded seven of them. The final tally: Incumbent board member Hall won, 2,579 to 2,572.
Chief Deputy Registrar of Voters Shirley Deaton said Aynes, 34, of Costa Mesa had requested and paid $500 for the recount, which took two days.
Aynes and Hall were unavailable Wednesday for comment.
