Ram Camp : Youngblood Might Miss Entire Exhibition Season

Coach John Robinson of the Rams said Monday that defensive end Jack Youngblood, who had previously been given permission to miss training camp and rehabilitate his bothersome back on his own, would play only the final exhibition game against New England, if that.

Youngblood had planned to skip Thursday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Anaheim, and will skip next week’s game against the Eagles at Columbus, Ohio, because it’s on a synthetic surface.

“I want him to be a little threatened when he comes in here,” Robinson said of Youngblood. “Like, ‘Jack, there may not be a spot for you.’ When he comes in, it counts.”

Running back Marlon McIntyre from Pittsburgh, an eighth-round selection, Monday became the first draft choice to be waived. Two dozen more players must be cut before next Tuesday to reach the first limit of 60. . . . Coach John Robinson said he would start Dieter Brock at quarterback in Thursday night’s game against the Cardinals. “I thought he had a good start (against Houston),” Robinson said. “I was not impressed with our receivers. (Quarterback) Jeff (Kemp) was a little erratic.” . . . Robinson praised the performances of defensive linemen Gary Jeter and Doug Reed. . . . A camp source said that John Misko, the Rams’ punter for three years, asked to be released last week so he could find work elsewhere, assuming that rookie Dale Hatcher had the inside track. Misko quickly signed with the New York Jets.
