South Korean dissident Kim Dae Jung said he was placed under house arrest “for a while” in Seoul, hours before the main opposition New Korean Democratic Party opened a two-day convention. He said he was told by the police chief that the action was taken because he had been engaging in political activities. Kim, who returned from U.S. exile in February, has been barred from political activities under terms of a suspended 20-year sentence for sedition.
