Cardiff
Craig Mojonnier, son of Assemblywoman Sunny Mojonnier (R-Encinitas), pleaded not guilty to a charge of false imprisonment Tuesday, his attorney, Michael Pancer, said.
Mojonnier, 22, allegedly abducted 15-year-old Erick Huff from his Cardiff home June 22. Howard Huff, Erick’s father, said Mojonnier came to the door and told Erick his sister had been in an accident and Erick should go with him. The Huffs later allegedly received a demand for $100,000 in ransom.
Mojonnier was arrested at his home in Cardiff on June 26, and Erick was released in Los Angeles shortly afterward by a man authorities said was Mojonnier’s accomplice. Police are still searching for the man, Gary Chavez, 32.
Mojonnier’s preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 27 in North County Municipal Court at Vista.
